In a machine that may be a rotary compressor or expander of the sliding- vane type, Figure 3, inlet and outlet chambers 61, 62 are configured such that the working-fluid flow therein is "near lamina". Alternatively, the machine may be a reciprocating air compressor, Figure 6, having an air inlet port 96 configured such that the flow of incoming air is near lamina. Vanes 101 may render said flow also vortical, Figure 9B (not shown). The port 96 is controlled by a sleeve valve 95. The machine may be a reciprocating I.C. engine, Figures 10-18, wherein the ingoing flow of working fluid is both vortical and near lamina. The near lamina flow reduces heat losses. <IMAGE> |
