PURPOSE:To raise the stability in car running and secure the safety by putting one of the two control mechanism, a four-wheel steering control mechanism and a suspension damping force control mechanism, which remains to operate normally into the failsafe side, when the other is in failure. CONSTITUTION:When a car is running normally, outputs from a steering angle sensor 18, a car speed sensor 19, road surface sensors 24L, 24R, 25L, 25R to measure distance between the body and road surface, and shock absorber sensors 20b-23b are fed into a controller 17. This controller 17 performs control to set the optimum suspension damping force, which suits best the running conditions and road surface condition. If judgement at this time is that 4WD is in failure, a decision shall be made to increase the suspension damping force at one step, and then the shock absorbers 20-23 are controlled so as to attain the desired damping force in case sensors and solenoids necessary for the suspension damping force control system control are not in failure. |
