OPTICAL RECORDING/REPRODUCING DEVICE AND ITS RECORDING CARRIER

PURPOSE:To realize the application of plural types of recording carriers which are recorded in different recording density levels by changing the size of an optical spot which is converged on a recording layer in response to the recording carrier to be used and at the same time controlling the reproduction of those recording carriers recorded in different density levels. CONSTITUTION:A recording layer 2 is used to converge by using a light converging means which converges the light emitted from a coherent light source. A recording carrier 1 is used to record the information on the layer 2 in the highest recording density that is approximately decided by the working wavelength. Furthermore another carrier 1 is used to record the information on the layer 2 in the recording density lower than the highest level. A record/ reproduction control means is also prepared to control the record and reproduction of information to and from the carrier 1. Thus it is possible to use plural carriers 1 of different recording density levels via the same recording/ reproducing device.
