High energy fuels comprising finely divided particles of elements such as Li, Be, Ba, C, Na, Mg, Al and Si dispersed in a inflammable medium comprising a hydrocarbon liquid, oil or polymer powder, made by filling a (polypropylene) reactor chamber with pellets (5-50 mm dia) of the metal submerged in the hydrocarbon liquid or powder and submitting the resulting bed to a series of discharge shock waves fired between a pair of electrodes inset into the reactor. Repeated discharges can reduce the particle size to 0.001-1.0 micron. Used esp. for pulverizing 52% wt. Al and 0.4% wt. C in 47.6% wt. kerosene to produce a high energy paste.
|
