PURPOSE:To prevent production of ghost and flair in an image pickup region by setting the mount structure between a sensor chip and a glass plate of an image pickup element so that a reflected light in the inner side end face of the surface glass plate while being incident externally does not enter the image pickup region. CONSTITUTION:A sensor chip 2' of the solid-state image pickup element is mounted on the read frame 1 and prescribed wiring is applied by a wire 3, the entire part is sealed by a package 4, formed by molding by means of a transparent plastic or the like and a glass plate 5' is adhered to the surface of the package 4' opposite to the image forming face of the sensor chip 2' by an adhesives. Then the distance between the end of the image pickup area 2'b and the side face of the glass plate 5' is set so that the arrival position of the internal reflection light l' of the incident light (l) at the side end face of the glass plate 5' comes at the outside of the image pickup region 2'b. Thus, occurrence of ghost and flair is prevented.
