PURPOSE:To produce useful substances efficiently by transforming a microorganism which is Pseudomonas and resistant to organic solvents and bringing the microorganism into contact with an organic compound. CONSTITUTION:A microorganism which is in Pseudomonas and resists one or more organic solvents selected from aliphatic hydrocarbons, alicyclic hydrocarbons, aromatic hydrocarbons, alcohols, ethers, ketones and their derivatives such as Pseudomonas putida var. STM-603 (FERM P-9228), is transformed by introducing a gene which is necessary for conducting oxidation or reduction reactions by biotechnology. Then, the transformed microorganism is brought into contact with an organic compound in a binary system consisting of water and an organic solvent or in an organic solvent containing a trace amount of water to effect the desired reactions. |
