In the flute (15) of a cutting tool shaped as a twist drill, recesses shaped as transverse grooves (62) and projections formed as segmentary ribs (63) extend transversely to the cutting edge, represented in this case by the circumferential cutting edge (6). The waves thus formed extend up to the cutting edge (circumferential cutting edge) (6), so that the transverse grooves (62) act as chip-breaking flutes. A wavy bottom line is also formed at the bottom of the flute along the spiral groove center line (61), so that the chips bear against a limited surface and are pulsatingly lifted during their transport transversely to the bearing and to the transporting path. The chips cut by the main cutting edges (4, 5) follow the same path; the chip-breaking flutes may also be formed by guiding grooves (23) that extend along the the flute and are separated by guiding ribs, again with the result of reducing the bearing surface. The adherence of the chips within the flute (15) is thus reduced, clinging chips are removed and the flow of chips is improved. Finally, a process is disclosed for producing a cutting tool, in particular a drill and/or a milling tool, having the design of the present invention.
|
