<p>Apparatus is provided for obtaining a more accurate measure of friction forces on a continuous caster mold (10). The apparatus includes a plurality of vertical force indicating devices (56, 58, 60, 62) each comprising a set of at least two horizontally spaced load cells (64, 66) forming the load bearing connection between the mold (10) and a frame (32) for support of the mold (10). A member bearing (96) on the load cells (64, 66) in each set is slidably mounted in a track (98) to reduce the effect of lateral forces on the load cells (64, 66) due to imbalance or tilting of the mold (10) while the mold (10) is oscillated during the casting operation.</p> |
