Forming metal-free strips on metallised plastic films for capacitors - with metal grindstones against which film band is pressed

Process is carried out by pressing the film band with a press. set by regulating band tension against grindstones past which it is moving. The grindstones are amde of metal pref. steel, with sharp roughened edges at their circumferences forming the grinding surfaces. Appts. comprises a re-winder with two rollers between which are reversing and tensioning rollers along the path of the film band. The grindstones may be roughened by sand blasting or by electro-erosion. A narrower grinding surface can thus be used, and the grindstones rotate at high speed without damaging the highly sensitive plastic films.
