The invention relates to a photoelectronic sensing or measuring device which has, on the one hand, a light source illuminating the sensing or measuring region and, on the other hand, a receiver element directed towards the light source with a light-sensitive element arrangement which generates electrical signals as a function of the amount of light received from the object to be sensed or measured. A plate-shaped body with light-collecting properties which, if appropriate, extends in sections over the sensing or measuring region is introduced into the paths of rays from the light source to the light-sensitive elements in such a manner that a flat side of the body faces the light source and a narrow side faces the light-sensitive element arrangement. In order to provide a device of this kind with a high resolution and to make it suitable for environmentally polluted metallurgical works (iron works, foundries), it is proposed according to the invention that the light-collecting plastic body (6) in the form of a plate is arranged between at least two fluorescent lamps (2, 3, 4, 5) in a housing (1) and extends through its one longitudinal wall which is provided with a longitudinal slot (7). <IMAGE>
