PURPOSE:To prevent color formation due to unintended heating, by specifying the thickness of a base, in a thermal recording material comprising a thermal recording layer provided by coating the base with a coating liquid containing an emulsified or dispersed material, followed by drying. CONSTITUTION:A thermal recording material comprises a thermal recording layer provided by coating a base with a coating liquid, followed by drying the applied coating liquid. The coating liquid comprises a an emulsified or dispersed material obtained by a method wherein microcapsules containing a colorless or light-colored basic dye precursor therein and a color developer dissolved in an organic solvent difficultly soluble or insoluble in water are emulsified or dispersed. The thickness of the base is at least 40mum. If the thickness is less than 40mum, the heat-insulating property of the base at the time of thermal recording is unsatisfactory, so that when the back side of the base is heated or when the thermal recording layer is provided on either side of the base, it is impossible to satisfactorily prevent color formation in the thermal recording layer on the side opposite to the heated side. Thus, even when the thermal recording material is inserted face side back into a thermal recorder, wasting of the recording material due to unintended recording can be obviated. Also, where the thermal recording layer is provided on either side of the base, thermal recording signals applied to one side are prevented from causing color formation in the thermal recording layer on the other side. |
