The body of a grinding wheel, made of e.g. Invar steel, carries on the periphery the grinding material (boron nitride or diamonds) applied by galvanic, resinoid or ceramic bond. The body has a thermal coefft. of expansion of nearly zero; instead of Invar steel, ceramic material or glass with zero thermal expansion can be used. The glass would be a titanium-silicate type and the ceramic material Xerodur (RTM). ADVANTAGE - The zero expansion permits operations with narrower tolerances to be carried out.
