PURPOSE:To produce a lightweight tool made of Ti alloy having excellent hardness and workability and having high corrosion resistance in a short time by annealing a Ti alloy contg. specific amt. of Cr at a specific temp., subjecting it to cold working and thereafter executing quenching to said alloy from the specific temp. area. CONSTITUTION:The Ti alloy contg. 4-9wt.% Cr and the balance consisting of Ti with inevitable impurities is annealed at the temp of 675-750 deg.C. In this way, said Ti alloy is formed into the state of two phases, i.e., alpha phase and betaphase to improve the workability thereof. Said Ti alloy is cold worked into the prescribed shape. The preform is thereafter quenched from the temp. area of >=750 deg.C and more preferably about <=900 deg.C. By this method, the beta phase is increased and the omega phase is deposited into the Ti alloy, thereby drastically improving the hardness thereof. The tool made of Ti alloy having high hardness and high workability which effectively utilizes the lightweight and corrosion resistance of Ti alloy is thus obtd.
