PURPOSE:To shorten the processing time of a binarization and an interpolation by distributing the ON/OFF of a dot generated by the binarization of a luminance signal according to a ratio for respective colors of yellow, magenta, cyanogen and coloring in a printing step. CONSTITUTION:The color separation signals of red R, green G, and blue B of a color original picture obtained in a color separating synchronizing separator circuit 2 are respectively converted in 8 bit A/D converters 7, 8, 9 and stored in memories 11, 12, 13. Then, the luminance signal of the variable density value of 8 bits is obtained in an MPU 17 from stored picture data to increase the number of picture elements according to an interpolating operation to execute the binarization processing, recognize the small area of four picture elements Xfour picture elements in an enlarged screen, divide the dot of the small area to a rate equal to a density ratio to and have an output dot based on the calculation of the density ratio of the respective color separation signals of yellow, magenta, cyanogen in a corresponding original picture and form the binarization data of a color output.
