PURPOSE:To extremely shorten the processing time for saving by adding a code into a control information label of the data set to show a saving/recovering process level in response to each data set of a DASD (direct access storage device) volume. CONSTITUTION:A DASD volume 1 to be saved is saved to a saving magnetic tape 2 by a saving program 3. In such a case, the saving action is decided by a process code 5 showing a saving/recovering process level in the volume 1. While a recovering process applied to a DASD volume 7 is executed by the designation of contents of recovery processing in accordance with a processing code 5 which indicates the processing level of saving and recovery saved to a saving magnetic tape 2 by a recovery program 4. Thus the saving processing is carried out exclusive of the those sets not to be saved and therefore the time need for saving process is extremely shortened.
