PURPOSE:To obtain glass for transmitting ultraviolet rays and absorbing heat rays which is comparatively high in the transition temp. and transmits ultraviolet rays of 356nm and absorbs visible light and infrared rays and is excellent in heat resistance by incorporating SiO2, Al2O3, B2O3, alkali (earth) metallic oxide, ZnO and PbO or the like respectively at the prescribed rate. CONSTITUTION:Glass for transmitting ultraviolet rays and absorbing heat rays is obtained by incorporating, hereinafter shown by wt.%, 48-55 SiO2, 4-12 Al2O3, 4-13 B2O3, 2-6 Na2O, 0-5 K2O, 0-1 Li2O, 0.5-5 NiO, 0.2-2 CoO, 0-1 As2O3 and 0-1 Sb2O3 and satisfying the following conditions. In other words, the above-mentioned conditions are set so that 3-7% (Na2O+K2O), 25-35% (BaO+CaO+MgO+ZnO+PbO) and 0.3-1.5% (As2O3+Sb2O3) are obtained. Since the glass of this invention is excellent in heat resistance in comparison with conventional silicate glass, it is applied to a glass filter or the like of an ultraviolet irradiation device for curing resin and this device can be miniaturized.
