PURPOSE:To quickly and surely detect a position of an object to be measured, without a variance, by decreasing a speed at which a measuring tool and the object to be measured approach each other, before a contact terminal comes into contact with the object to be photographed. CONSTITUTION:By operating a driving means, a measuring tool 5 is brought to an approach movement by a rapid traverse in the (x) axis direction with respect to an object to be measured. Before a contact terminal 15 of the measuring tool 5 comes into contact with the object to be measured, when an approach detector 25 detects an approach to the object to be measured, the driving means is decelerated by a speed control means by this detection, and the speed at which the measuring tool 5 and the object to be measured 6 approach each other decreases. As a result, at the time point when the contact terminal 15 comes into contact with the object to be measured, the driving means can be stopped surely, and in a state that the contact terminal 15 of the measuring tool 5 has come into contact with the object to be measured, the relative movement can be stopped surely and smoothly.
