PURPOSE:To enable full automatic specified size feed of a material even when a slip is produced in the middle of the feed of a material, by a method wherein a slip amount detected in relation to the stroke motion of a material feed vice device is provided before the starting of a final stroke or after completion of a full stroke. CONSTITUTION:A vice device 9 is moved backward until a limit switch LS1 is brought into contact with a stopper 43, a material M to be cut is then nipped by means of a vice, and is fed toward a fixed vice 7. In this case, a slip amount is detected by an encoder 35. When a slip amount is detected, a slip amount is set to a new feed amount so that an additional feed equivalent to the slip amount is made, and the stopper 43 is positioned to correct the slip amount. Through the working of a cylinder Sy3 of the fixed vice device 7, the material M to be cut is nipped, and is cut as a housing 11 is lowered. Cutting of the material to specified sizes is repeated, and since automatic correction is effected even if a slip occurs during the feed of the material, a cutting size can be normally maintained at a specified value.
