APPARATUS FOR DETECTING LEAKAGE IN GROUP OF PIPES

PURPOSE:To detect leakage with good accuracy even when sonic waves do not generate at the time of leakage, by distributing a detection wire reacting with hygroscopic moisture throughout the inner surface of a housing surrounding the periphery of a piping group. CONSTITUTION:A primary cooling water inlet pipe group 1 guides light water for cooling a reactor core to the reactor core from a water drum 2. The periphery of the inlet pipe group 1 is covered with a housing 3 having heat insulating function and a detection wire 4 detecting hygroscopic moisture is distributed throughout the inner surface of the housing 3 so as to cross the inlet pipe group 1. This detection wire 4 is constituted by linearily forming a detection element showing response to hygroscopic moisture in a form lowered in electric resistance. When cracking is generated in either one of the pipes of the inlet pipe group, leaked primary cooling water is vertically and radially injected to the pipe wall and directly impinges against the detection wire 4 distributed throughout the inner surface of the housing at any position and leakage is detected.
