PURPOSE:To prevent exfoliation of a thin ferromagnetic metallic film by subjecting the joint surface of a substrate consisting of a ferromagnetic oxide material to surface prepn. to roughen the surface, then forming the thin film on such joint surface. CONSTITUTION:The top surface of the substrate 1 consisting of the ferromagnetic oxide material is lapped to form the rough surface and plural pieces of slant grooves 2 are formed on such surface in parallel. A ferromagnetic metallic material such as 'SENDUST(R)' is deposited thereon and the top surface 1a thereof is smoothed by surface grinding to expose the thin ferromagnetic metallic film 3 deposited on the slopes 2a of the slant faces 2. Grooves 4 for defining track widths are then worked on the surface 1a in parallel with the grooves 2 to form gap faces 5. Winding grooves 6 and glass rod insertion grooves 7 are formed thereon to intersect orthogonally with the grooves 2. The tape sliding surface 10 of a core block 9 formed by inserting glass rods into the grooves 7 and heating up the substrates 1, 1' to adhere the glass 8 to the substrates is rounded and the core block is sliced with inclination at a prescribed angle, by which plural pieces of head chips 11 are formed. The exfoliation of the thin ferromagnetic metallic film is thereby prevented.
