1313976 Rotary shaft seals SIEMEN & HINSCH mbH 19 April 1971 [31 Jan 1970] 21406/71 Heading F2B In an assembly comprising a liquid piston rotary gas pump 1 driven by a flanged motor 2, the pump casing 10 being secured to the motor flange and the hub 14 of the rotor 13 being supported by the motor stub shaft 20, the hub 14 extends through the pump casing wall facing the motor and is mounted on the shaft 20 by key and groove means 22 providing free axial movement and the shaft is sealed by an end face seal 3 which is located on the motor side of said wall and extends between the wall and a shoulder 21 on the shaft 20. The seal 3 in the upper part of Fig. 1 has a rotary part urged against the wall by a spring 23 abutting the shoulder 21 and, in the lower part of Fig. 1, one end of the seal is press-fitted on the wall and the other end sealingly engages the shoulder 21. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), the rotary member of the seal is a ring (30) keyed to the shaft (20) and abutting the shoulder (21). In a further modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), the seal contact faces are urged into engagement by a flexible diaphragm (24). |
