Utilisation in know manner of plates of soft elastic spongy material based on polyurethane or of similar open cell foamed material with rubber like elasticity, for the propagation of cuttings and germination of seeds, but the spongy material is hydrophilic, compressible but with good elastic recovery, has at least 80% and pref. 90-95% open cells and is formed into sheets of any size, sub-divided by stamping, cutting or other similar operation, into a large number of seprate blocks or lumps of any desired size connected together only by small bridges between adjacent lumps. The lumps, provided with cuttings etc., are readily separated after root growth without damage to the roots. Alternatively the individual lumps are welded in coherent strips in sheets or mesh-form fabrics so that they can readily be separated from each other. |
