A fire rescue line A of the type which is designed to lower persons down from a burning building during evacuation through windows, has a length corresponding to the fixing height of the device and slides over a friction line roller B with a groove C, which produces braking under the load of persons being lowered. The friction line roller B itself is provided with a central, over-size hole D and runs between two bolts E, E', firmly anchored to side plates F forming a housing, which by means of a fastening fixture G are fixed to the window frame. Under load, the line A locks the friction line roller B tightly against the bolts E, E' in such a way that the line slides in the groove D of the friction line roller, by means of which the line passes between two pins H located at the bottom end of the two side plates F, in order to hold the line A in against the circumference of the groove C. In the shortest line part M, when the rescue line A is coiled up, a rescue harness I is secured, which is made of a soft material suited to the purpose. The rescue line A is fitted in a case provided with a sliding lid with a release cord. By pulling the lid slightly it is possible to release the case, which can be thrown out through the window with the longest end N of the line A. The rescue line A, which runs around the friction line roller B, can easily be hauled up in the starting position, since with no load the line roller runs back freely (figure 1 and 2). <IMAGE>
