Method of producing a self-driving inverter with thyristors T, T' and antiparallel diodes 11, 20, characterised in that the energising of each thyristor is achieved through the current pulse from the antiparallel diode of the preceding thyristor, this pulse being itself delayed by a pulse delayer circuit; the starting up of the sequential chain being provided for by a single pulse generator 9, 10 slaved to the current from one of the thyristors; protection against current surges being achieved with a monostable 28, 31-34 triggered by the pulses arising from the overstepping of the assigned level of current and operating as a circuit breaker/maker. <IMAGE>
