PURPOSE:To improve an output, by a method wherein, a device in which the shutter gate of an output chamber is opened and closed by a shutter disc having double inversion structure, a given steam feed groove is formed in the surface, making slide contact with a rotor, of the side of output chamber. CONSTITUTION:In an external combustion engine, output chambers 32 and 32' are aligned radially centering around a shaft 10 on which a pair of shutter discs 1 and 2 are mounted, and output shafts 27 and 28, extended through the output chambers 32 and 32', respectively, are rotatable in linkage with each other through interlocking gears 29 and 30. Rotors 35 and 35', from the peripheral surfaces of which respective collecting plates 41 are projected, are mounted on the output shafts 27 and 28, respectively, and the rotors are rotated when the collecting plate 41 receives steam fed through a vent hole 37. In this case, a C-shaped steam feed groove 36, positioned facing the output actuating area of the rotation locus of the vent hole 37 formed in the side of the rotor, is formed in the surface, making slide contact with the rotor 35 or 35', of the side plate 31 of the output chamber. This constitution improves the operation efficiency of an engine.
