PURPOSE:To contrive high-density recording at plural recording and reproducing times with a extremely simple constitution by equalizing the time of one turning of a rotary cylinder with a vertical synchronization period, switching within one track a luminance signal and a chrominance signal that are time base compressed, and recording and reproducing with two magnetic heads of different azymus angles. CONSTITUTION:The luminance signal (c) is inputted to an input terminal 1 and a time base compressed chrominance signal (d) to an input terminal 2. The signal (c) passes a synchronizing signal detecting circuit 3 and reaches the first memory, while the signal (d) reaches the second memory. The signals outputted from the first and the second memories come to be a signal (e) composed of the signals (c) and (d) that are time base compressed by two times and switched alternately at every horizontal synchronization period, which enter an FM modulator 6. An output signal from the modulator 6 is recorded by magnetic heads 7 and 8 having different azymus angles. Thus a track pattern in which the luminance signal of different recording azymus angle is positioned adjacent to the luminance signal, and the chrominance signal of different recording azymus angle is positioned adjacent to a color signal, is obtained.
