PURPOSE:To facilitate and simplify spatial filter processing by using an optical system to process a part of the calculation at the read of an original image even when a large matrix size is used in applying the spatial filter procesisng to improve the image quality of quantized digital image information. CONSTITUTION:The optical system comprising an optical fiber array 4, a ND filter 5, a SELFOC lens 6 and a line image sensor 7 is subjected to subscanning feed. Each optical fiber end face is arranged on the incident light side of the array 4 so as to have 3 lines l1, l2 and l3 in the main scanning direction, the line 2 of the midpoint in the incident light side is arranged as the line l2 as it is at the irradiated light side and both the two side lines l1, l3 at the incident light side are led out as a line l4 being the assembly of the lines l1 and l3 respectively, filter arrays 51, 52 having light transmissivity in response to different weight coefficients are arranged in opposition to the lines l2, l4 at the irradiated light side and the light passing through the filters 51, 52 is received respectively by image sensors 71, 72 via the lens 6.
