A planing machine comprises a tool 5 having two identical cutting edges 4 and mounted in a cylindrical bearing sleeve 2. The tool is clamped in the sleeve 2, by a bolt 10 and a collar 12 compressing rings 11, and is located by a pin 8. The sleeve is oscillated to bring alternate tools to cutting position by a rack engaging gearteeth 3. The sleeve is mounted in a conical bearing at its forward end which allows for thermal expansion and wear is taken up by a spring 18 acting on an upper bearing 17. |
