A hydraulic brake system with wheel-slip control and no accumulator is proposed for motor vehicles, which has a brake master cylinder and a booster connected to the brake master cylinder on the inlet side, a pressure medium pump with a controllable electric motor drive and a compensating vessel connected to the inlet of the pressure medium pump.
