PURPOSE:To reduce sharply a radiation loss at a bent part of a waveguide by forming a wedge-like part having a refractive index different from that of a waveguide layer of the waveguide on the bent part. CONSTITUTION:The end surface of the wedge-like groove 12 of the 1st waveguide 11 is inclined in the rectangular direction to the waveguide 11 with an angle alpha from the light transmitting direction. On the other hand, the 2nd waveguide 13 is arranged so as to be bent from its center axis downward by thetab(=nalpha) within a base surface. Thereby, light beams transmitted through the 1st waveguide 11 is refracted at the end surface and all of the beams are made incident on the 2nd waveguide 13. Consequently, the optical waveguide circuit can reduce the transmission loss of the bent part remarkably. |
