PURPOSE:To obtain the titled substance useful as an antibiotic substance, by culturing a microbial strain belonging to Streptomyces genus and capable of producing titled substance and separating the objective substance from the culture product. CONSTITUTION:A microbial strain belonging to Streptomyces genus and capable of producing 3-oxyuracil [e.g. Streptomyces lydicus MK233 (FERM-P 8541)] is cultured in a medium used in conventional cultivation of actinomycetes and containing a carbon source (e.g. glucose, sucrose, etc.), a nitrogen source (e.g. ammonium chloride, peptone, etc.), inorganic salt, etc., at 25-32 deg.C under nearly neutral condition for 2-7 days by submerged agitation process. the objective 3-oxyuracil is separated and purified by subjecting the culture liquid to the adsorption and desorption process with an anion exchange resin, cellulose column chromatography, silica gel column chromatography, etc.
