An endless track vehicle chassis 12 rotatably supports about a vertical axis a frame 18 which consists of side members 34 supporting a platform 80, a control cab 20 and luffing booms 38 and which is rotatable between the transverse position shown and a position in which the platform extends longitudinally of the vehicle. The booms 38 are luffed by hydralic rams and pivotally support fork members 54 and a clamp jaw 66. In operation, the vehicle is driven in the position shown to engage the fork members beneath a stack of transversely extending timber. Having gripped the timber with the clamp jaw 66, the booms are luffed and the fork members are tilted by rams 58 to bring the timber over the platform 80 on to which it is released. To transport the timber, the frame is rotated through 90 degrees so that the timber extends parallel to the direction of travel. To unload the timber, the frame is rotated back to the position shown, the booms are lowered into contact with the ground and the clamp jaw is closed down. Posts 96 on the platform are pivoted down and the platform is tipped towards the front of the vehicle causing the timber to roll off the platform and down the booms to the ground, Fig. 5 (not shown).</p> |
