PURPOSE:To obtain a recording material which gives a sufficient developed color density when being used in combination with an electron-donating colorless dye and is improved in preservability and solvent resistance, by using a compound of a specified structure as an electron-accepting compound. CONSTITUTION:A compound of formula I, wherein R is hydrogen, an alkyl or aryl, X is hydrogen, a lower alkyl, allyl or a halogen, Ar is an aryl, and Y is hydrogen, a halogen, alkyl or alkoxyl, is used as an electron-accepting compound. The compound of formula I is, for example, 4-[1,1-bis(4-hydroxyphenyl)ethyl]biphenyl. In the case of a pressure-sensitive copying paper, at least one electron-donating colorless dye is dissolved in a solvent either singly or in combination, the resultant solution is dispersed in a binder or is microencapsulated, and the resultant dispersed material or microcapsules are applied to a base such as a paper to obtain a color former sheet. On the other hand, at least one electron-accepting compound mentioned above is dispersed in a binder either singly or in combination, and the dispersed material is applied to a base such as a paper to obtain a color developer sheet. In the case of a thermal recording material, the electron-donating colorless dye, the electron-accepting compound and other components are ground and mixed, and the resultant mixture is applied to a base, followed by drying. |
