PURPOSE:To obtain an air cylinder requiring only a small air-consumption by combining, in series, two cylinders of large and small sizes varying in stroke length, and then, operating the large cylinder only at the last stage of forward stroke where a great power is required for operation. CONSTITUTION:When air is supplied through the primary supply port 6 on the top cover 2 of the upper cylinder A so as to cause a piston rod 4 to descend in the forward stroke, the rod 4 descends with sliding along the internal surface of supporting metal fittings 11. When an engage groove 18 on the rod 4 reaches the concave groove 14 area on the supporting metal fittings 11, a connector 15 is placed in between the engage groove 18 and the concave groove 14 on the supporting metal fittings 11 so that the supporting metal fittings 11 are locked to the rod 4. In such a state as it is, when air is supplied again through the secondary supply port 19 on the intermediate cover 1, a great descending force is caused to act through the lower piston 10 upon the rod 4. |
