The main components of the operating lever (1) equipped with a temperature protection means and intended, for example, for a shut-off cork (2), are the inner part (5) mounted in a fixed manner on the actuating shaft (3) of the plug cork (4), the lever housing (7), which is arranged coaxially to the said inner part, which is provided with a handle (6) and in which the inner part (5) is rotatably mounted, the prestressed spiral spring (8) as the coupling element between the inner part (5) and the lever housing (7), an interlock between the lever housing (7) and the inner part (5), having a temperature-controlled switching element for the release of the interlock when a certain excessive ambient temperature arises, and stops which are arranged on the lever housing (7) and on the inner part (5) and which interact as a switching-stroke limiter for the operating lever (1) with a counterstop (14) attached to the housing (13) of the shut-off cork (2). The interlocking of the inner part (5) to the housing (7) of the operating lever (1) is effected by way of a locking pin (15) which is guided displaceably in the lever housing (7) and the tapered end (15a) engages, when the interlock is engaged, in a corresponding groove (16) in the inner part (5) and the other, flat end (15b) of which rests against a fusible insert (17) built into the lever housing (7) with a contact pressure generated by the spiral spring (8) between the inner part (5) and the lever housing (7) and introduced via the tapered end (15a) of the locking pin. <IMAGE>
