PURPOSE:To elevate sensitivity and to greatly enhance graininess by combining substantially monodispersed silver halide grains with a combination of the first coupler dissolved in an oil and dispersed as the oil drops and the second coupler dispersed as an alkaline solution. CONSTITUTION:A silver halide emulsion layer contains the first coupler dispersed as the oil solution drops, the second coupler dispersed as the alkaline solution, and the substantially monodispersed silver halide grains, and the weight of the silver halide contained in the range of + or -20% of the average grain diameter of said silver halide grains amounts to >=60%, preferably, >=70% of that of the total silver halide grains. It is desirable that the first coupler is low in the development velocity in the early stage, and the second coupler is high in it, and as the first coupler, four-equivalent type couplers high in compatibility with high-boiling solvents, and having a color density of 10, and developing perfectly no color at the time of development are desirable, and as the second coupler, ones having a color density of >=0.03, preferably, >=0.07 are used. |
