In a torque converter with an infinitely variable belt or chain drive, especially a V-belt drive, which has a drive pulley and a driven pulley, which are coupled to one another by way of a belt or chain, the drive pulley being seated on a drive shaft which can be coupled to a drive assembly and the driven pulley being seated on a driven pulley shaft, which is coupled to a driven shaft, a gear transmission and a variable-speed transmission are also provided, the gear transmission being coupled on the drive side to the drive shaft and the variable-speed transmission serving both for coupling the driven pulley shaft to the driven shaft and for coupling the driven pulley shaft to the output side of the gear transmission. A differential gear is preferably provided as variable-speed transmission.
