The control circuit comprises a force commutated, current-source static converter having several SCRs equipped with two power electrodes. The voltage across them is sensed by a circuit with a summing point for comparing the voltage tapped at the two power electrodes against a reference voltage corresp. to a signal that is proportioneproportional to a safe drive voltage for the SCR devices and for generating a control signal from it. - A voltage source is provided to control the current contacted through the static converter by preventing rise in the voltage at the power electrodes above the reference voltage, following reception of the control signal.
