PURPOSE:To provide a PT alloy for an ornament consisting of prescribed weight percentages of Pt, Cu and Ru, having superior mechanical strength as well as superior workability and producing hardly blow holes during casting. CONSTITUTION:This Pt alloy for an ornament consists of 84-96wt% Pt, 1-15wt% Cu and 0.5-14wt% Ru. In the Pt alloy, Cu is added because it improves the mechanical strength and inhibits the production of blow holes during casting, and Ru is added because it controls the amount of copper oxide formed on the surface of molten metal during melting and further improves the mechanical strength without lowering the yield of products during casting. Since the Pt alloy has the above-mentioned superior characteristics, it is regarded as an epoch-making alloy substitutable for a conventional Pt alloy for an ornament.
