This invention discloses novel odorant and/or flavoring compositions containing a substituted tetralin or indan of the general formula I wherein R' represents -CN, -COCH2R6 or -COOCH2R8; R2 through R8 represent hydrogen or methyl and n represents 1 or 2. The invention is also concerned with those novel tetralins and indans disclosed herein.
