Lighting appts. for a discharge lamp comprises a discharge lamp with a current limiting device connected in series, consisting of a ferroelectric polycrystalline ceramic body comprising mainly BaTiO3 with an impedance radio calculated from a current value obtd. when measured in an alternating field of 5V/mm to an impedance (Z2) measured in an alternating field of 500 V/mm or less, of 1/10 or less. The lighting appts. is small in size and exhibits a lower power less than the prior art, while still having sufficient current capacity to operate the discharge lamp.
