PURPOSE:To obtain the titled substance useful as an antimicrobial agent in high quality in high yield, by reacting o-nitroaniline with an alkali metal hypochlorite, a base, and an acetoacetic acid amide derivative in a secondary or tertiary alcohol solvent. CONSTITUTION:o-Nitroantiline is dissolved in a secondary or tertiary alcohol (e.g., isopropanol) solvent shown by the formula R'-OH (R' is >=3C alkyl, and OH is bonded to secondary or tertiary carbon), dropped to and reacted with an alkali metal hypochlorite in the presence of a caustic alkali at 35-40 deg.C for 3-5 hours to form an intermediate like benzofuroxan and the alcoholic solution containing the intermediate is reacted with a base such as R''-NH2 (R'' is H, CH3, or C2H5) and an acetoacetic acid amide derivative shown by the formula CH3COCH3 CONHCH2CH2OR (R is H, or alkyl) to give a compound shown by the formula.
