What is claimed is a seat for public transport, comprising a profile frame with a sprung seat cushion which is covered by means of a seat cover and is composed of a fire-resistant and low-fuming material, at least two opposing profile strips of the seat having a groove which lies at the top, points towards the frame centre and whose web has recesses open towards the top, and all the profile strips having a horizontal groove which is open towards the frame centre and is intended for accommodating a flame-retardant plate as well as a groove which lies towards the outside of the frame, is open towards the bottom and is intended for accommodating the ends of the seat cover.
