The invention relates to a method and apparatus for refurbishing moderator/coolant displacer rods which were flooded with moderator/coolant liquid in a nuclear reactor during a previous fuel cycle.

By introducing air under pressure through the air entrance path, all the liquid above the level of the inlet (108) to the liquid exit path is forced through the latter and out of the displacer rod.
