PURPOSE:To obtain a clad ingot, excellent in cleanliness between its plied metal and base metal and small in the variation of clad ratio, by inserting a slab of plied metals having outer surfaces slanted divergently downward, into a mold having opposite inner surfaces slanted so as to expand downward, and pouring a molten base metal into the mold. CONSTITUTION:A built-up slab 11 having outer surfaces slanted divergently downward in approximately the same degree as the slant of the inner surfaces of a mold 3 is inserted into the mold 3 to cast a clad steel ingot by pouring a molten steel 4 into the mold 3 from its bottom. At that time, even when a part of suspended matters 9 existing in the surface of molten steel 4 is included in the boundary surface between the built-up slab 11 and the steel 4 the matters 9 are not left on the boundary surface because the outer surfaces of slab 11 are slanted divergently downward and are tapered upward to make the matters 9 easily floatable. Further, as the thickness of base metal 4 is almost the same through its longitudinal direction, two sheets of one-side clad steel piece obtained by rolling the clad steel ingot are free from the variation of clad ratio.
