PURPOSE:To provide identification of tool by using material to a tool holder as magnetic recording medium to be directly magnetized, recording the tool identifying information on this tool holder by means of residual magnetism, and by reproducing the recorded information. CONSTITUTION:A magnetic head 3 consisting of a magnetic substance wrapped with a recording/reproducing head 5 is fronting to the recording surface 4 of a tool holder 1, whose magnetic path opening 6 consists of a magnetic substance, with a minor gap d held between. If during recording a current is applied between terminals t1, t2 of recording/reproducing coil 5, a magnetic field 8 is produced in the neighborhood of said path opening 6 through a magnetic circuit 7, and thereby a magnetic pole couple 9 of N and S is formed on the recording surface 4 by the magnetic head 3 while the tool holder 1 rotates. That is, a magnetic field is applied directly to the material for tool holder 1, and the code information for identifying the tool is recorded by the residual magnetism in the form or either '1' or '0' in response to the orientation of said magnetic pole couple 9, i.e. either N S or S N. |
