摘要 PURPOSE:To improve running durability, still characteristic, etc. by providing a plasma polymerized film of which the atomic ratio of C/H is within a specific range, the film thickness is within a specific range and the contact angle of the polymerized film and water is within a range on a thin ferromagnetic metallic film formed on a nonmagnetic base. CONSTITUTION:A gaseous raw materials such as CH4 is fed from a gaseous raw material source 511 or 512 and is fed into a plasma polymn. reaction chamber R after the raw material is mixed in a mixer 53 while a film provided with a magnetic layer is transferred from a let-off roll 561 to a roll 562 in said chamber R. Hydrocarbon such as CH4, C2H4 or CHidenticalCH is used for the gaseous raw material. A voltage is impressed from a DC, AC and frequency variable type power source 54 to an electrode 551 and a counter electrode 552 is grounded. Electric power is then thrown under the specific plasma polymn. conditions to form the top coat layer having 1-6 atomic ratio of C/H, 10-40Angstrom film thickness and 60-120 deg.C contact range of water and polymerized film on the magnetic layer provided on the base. The corrosion resistance and durability of the magnetic recording medium having the magnetic metallic layer consisting essentially of Co in particular are thus improved.
