The invention consists in measuring on the supply line of the electric motor driving the rotating machine, the amplitude deviations of the current and in comparing them with a predetermined threshold, which corresponds to a known wear of the bearings of the rotating machine. Measurement of the deviations originating from wear of the bearings is performed by eliminating the amplitude variations due to other phenomena, such as for example the variations due to the mains supply, the toothing (gearing) harmonics and the changes in load which are applied to the motor. The invention finds its application must particularly in the case of submerged pumps used for drilling (boring).
