PURPOSE:To support a substrate through a periphery so that rotation is made unnecessary by recessing the periphery of the substrate. CONSTITUTION:The periphery of a nonmagnetic substrate 3 for a magnetic recording medium is circularly recessed 13, and the substrate 3 is supported by a support 4 through the projections 14 of a support ring 12. When a magnetic layer is deposited on the substrate 3 by sputtering, the substrate 3 can be supported through the periphery so that rotation is made unnecessary, and a magnetic recording medium can be formed easily and surely. |
