PURPOSE:To prevent a plotting mistake to be caused by drying of a pen point, by providing an auto pen return control means for moving a recording pen to a pen stocker side, when a scanning head has stopped its movement for a prescribed time, in an Y-Y plotter. CONSTITUTION:When X and Y motors stop in a state that a recording pen of a head 8 has ascended, an output of X and Y motor driving signal detecting means 104, 106 goes to ''1'', and inputted to an AND gate 108. A preset counter 98 is reset, and when a clock pulse from a clock pulse generating means 94 is counted by a prescribed number, ''1'' is outputted. Subsequently, an auto pen return command signal generating means 112 outputs an auto pen return command signal to X and Y motor driving signal creating means 116, 118 and a solenoid driving signal creating means 114. In such a way, the recording pen is moved to a pen stocker side, therefore, the generation of a plotting mistake caused by drying of a pen point can be prevented.
